November 19, 2020 by Maisha Leave a Comment

No, this title is not clickbait, it is a done deal that Mike Tyson will take on Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition bout in California. The fight will take place on November 28, and we have Tyson vs Jones odds, plus a betting guide, including analysis and a prediction for this legendary bout.

Tyson vs Jones Odds Prediction and Betting Guide

Online sportsbook Bovada released the Tyson-Jones Jr. betting odds for these two iconic champions with Jones opening as the -135 favourite and Tyson firing back as a -105 underdog. It didn’t take long for the line to flip, though, and Iron Mike is now the -210 favourite with Jones the +170 dog.

The latest Tyson vs Jones Jr. odds imply that you would have to wager $210 to profit $100 with a Tyson victory, while a $100 bet on Jones would yield you a profit of $170.

According to our sports betting calculator, the -210 Iron Mike line has an implied win probability of 67.74 per cent while +170 for Junior has an implied win probability of 37.04 per cent.

Tyson vs. Jones Odds Analysis:

There has been much excitement during the COVID-19 pandemic with Iron Mike’s training videos, showing off his tremendous head movement and powerful hands.

Boxing fans were abuzz for a comeback bout, the Evander Holyfield trilogy was floated and UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz even offered to step in for this fight, but it is the legend Roy Jones Jr. who will entertain the fans.

Looking back at Tyson’s historical betting odds, his odds of -210 are intriguing as he was only an underdog to Lennox Lewis (+175) in 2002 and those odds are slightly shorter than his next shortest odds of -200 in the rematch with Holyfield in the infamous ear-biting incident.

That said, the former undisputed heavyweight champ hasn’t been in action in 15 years and is now the ripe age of 54. Additionally, he hasn’t scored a victory since February 2003, when he made short work of Clifford Etienne with a first-round knockout.

As devastating and exciting as Tyson was in the late ’80s into the ‘90s, it was Jones who was named the boxer of the decade for the 1990s. The former light heavyweight king hasn’t been out of action as long as Tyson, having had his last bout in 2018, scoring a unanimous-decision win over Scott Sigmon to close out his career on a four-fight winning streak.

Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Betting Information:

Where To Bet?

If you want to have some action in this huge spectacle, there are plenty of ways that you can place a bet. To start, if your state has legalized sports gambling, then you can go to your local sportsbook, head up to the window and place your bet. Meanwhile, for others who don’t have that luxury, we have put together the best boxing betting sites that will have plenty of markets for you to wager on.

How To Bet:

There will be plenty of options for you to wager on for this fight and for a great in-depth guide we have put together a How to Bet on Boxing page for you. To start, when you see Tyson vs Jones Jr. odds listed, that is simply on which fighter will win, -210 for Mike Tyson and +170 for Roy Jones Jr. However when we get closer to the event, other props such as total rounds and method of victory will become available.

What Should You Consider When Betting?

As this is an exhibition bout, the official rules are still a little murky. California State Athletic Commissioner Andy Foster had urged the fighters to not seek the knockout, saying: “It’s an exhibition. They can exhibit their boxing skills, but I don’t want them using their best efforts to hurt each other … They’re going to spar hard, but they shouldn’t be going for a knockout. This isn’t a record-book type of fight.” Additionally, this bout will be eight two-minute rounds rather than the regular three-minute rounds.

So those who had been hoping for a quick Tyson knockout should note that may not be the best wager to make. Originally, there were to be no judges in attendance and it was essentially going to be a glorified sparring session, but judges will now be present and a special belt will be on the line. This is a charity bout, though, between two men over the age of 50, so for safety’s sake, we can only assume that this fight will go the distance.

Prediction:

It’s hard to determine how this fight will go down, with the Tyson vs Jones Jr. odds having flipped already. It will be an exhibition match with 12-ounce gloves as it’s unlikely that these two are going to be headhunting looking for a devastating knockout. But with the more recent announcement of judges and a special belt up for grabs, we will in fact get a true winner.

Of course, you would have to give the speed advantage to Roy Jones Jr., being the smaller man and having been active just two years ago.

That said, the showboating antics that Captain Hook uses in the ring represent a dangerous game to play with a power puncher like Tyson. Jones likes to keep his hands low and then use his outstanding lateral movement to create angles and land his accurate power hooks. Meanwhile, we can anticipate that Iron Mike will look to close the distance and land some heavy hooks of his own all while not allowing Jones to dance out of the way of danger.

The big question is how serious and how competitive this fight will be. If it in fact turns out to be nothing more than a glorified sparring session, I would have to lean toward Jones getting the win by having room to breathe, use his footwork and try to outpoint Tyson. However, if the tempo does pick up and the two champs look to exchange hands and go blow for blow, the needle moves toward Tyson because he’s so dangerous in a tight range. Fun fight, wish we had seen it about 15 years ago but here we are.

Prediction:

Jake Paul and Nate Robinson can’t believe they’re fighting each other but the two celebrities are set to meet in a professional boxing match on the undercard of the Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr PPV card on November 28, and each celebrity-turned-boxer revealed to Heavy just how “surreal” this whole thing feels even to the two men charged with participating in it.

Paul’s older brother Logan boosted the profile of Youtube boxing after two high-profile fights against British star KSI.

Jake already has one professional win to his name after an emphatic first-round victory over fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib.

But this time he will face Robinson who spent 11 years competing at the top level in the NBA.

Paddy Power, however, has Paul as the overwhelming odds-on favourite at 8/15 with Robinson a bigger price to win 7/4.

Paul is 13 years younger than Robinson but the former Chicago Bulls player is keen to prove he is the ultimate athlete and outshine an internet star on his boxing debut.

Although this is his first professional bout, Robinson has over a decade worth of experience of competing at the highest level on the big stage. (Source “The Sun“)

Jake Paul agreed to fight with Nate Robinson on Undercard

October 15, 2020 by Maisha 2 Comments

Former NBA player Nate Robinson and YouTube star Jake Paul will get in the ring on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s comeback fight in Los Angeles on November 28, 2020.

Nate Robinson and Jake Paul

With the monster bombshell that 54-year-old Mike Tyson will fight 51-year-old Roy Jones Jr in an eight-round pay-per-view exhibition where nobody really tries that hard to win on November 28, we’ve got another bit of massive breaking news: YouTuber Jake Paul will fight former NBA player Nate Robinson on the same card, Shams Charania confirms.

Paul made his “pro boxing” debut on Jan. 30 as part of a DAZN card in Miami, beating fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib via first-round stoppage. Paul, 23, had the look and build of someone athletic — he wrestled in high school, I think, but I’m not going to any lengths to confirm my memory of that information being true — while Gib did not.

It had been expected that Paul (1-0, 1 KO) would fight KSI, who had beef with Jake’s brother Logan Paul, resulting in both an amateur and pro bout between those two. KSI won a controversial decision in a controversial DAZN main event last November. Jake and KSI did a little act after Jake’s January fight, but maybe Big Ed Hearn has lost interest in the sideshows for the moment, what with having to scrape and claw to put his actual boxers onto cards.

As an aside, BoxRec has AnEsonGib ranked No. 971 of 1,193 cruiserweights in the world and if I were the 222 guys ranked below him I might be pretty upset.
